Women of Walnut Street
Women's Ministry

What We Do
As a group, the Women of Walnut Street make an effort to take advantage of various fellowship opportunities, comferemce events and mission events. Here are some examples:
Group Bible Conferences

Beth Moore in Indianapolis (2005); Beth Moore in Lexington (2004); Anne Graham Lotz in Lexington (2004); Beth Moore in Cincinnati (2003)
Fellowship Events

Spring Fling - To honor mothers and daughters; Wondrous Women of Walnut Street - To honor women of faith who have helped build the family of God at Walnut Street ; Festival of Tables - The very popular annual dinner where each table is decorated by a hostess who chooses her own theme.
Mission Events

Outreach at the Old Louisville Flea Market; Activities-sponsored Christmas Market; Recycling of gently used Bible study materials and purchase of some new ones for the Native American outreach in Gallup, NM; Annual Shine for Jesus event where WOWS polish and deep clean our worship areas; donation of funds for fix-up and painting projects; A WOWS-led Worship Event in 2005 in which women of Walnut Street ages 6 to 60+ led in singing, scripture presentation and testimony; Touched Twice ministry event in fall 2003 in which WOWS partnered with Community Missions and the Long Run Baptist Association to provide a free clinic with various medical,  dental, and counseling services to the WSBC neighborhood.

Want to become a part of this wonderful fellowship?  We welcome you and would love to have you join us.  Not only are there ways to help with coordinating WOWS, but there are many different ministries and activities at the church with opportunities to help.  This Christ-centered fellowship is open to all women, not just Walnut Street membership.  Contact Mary Ann Tyler WOWS Coordinator.

Attention all Ladies: Winter Bible Studies will be starting in mid-January!  We will offer two studies:  Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur and Daniel by Beth Moore.  Signups begin December 23 in the Welcome Center.  Can't decide which one you'd like to do?  This summer we will offer the same two at different times.  You can pick the season that is best for you!  Questions?  Contact Laura Brummett at (502) 413-5627 or at brummetts2000@yahoo.com.

In addition to the traditional ministries such as Sunday School, corporate worship, and mission organizations offered to everyone in our church, the Older Adult Ministry offers additional enriching opportunities. These include OASIS (Older Adults Still In Service) and AARP/TempleCare. OASIS, an exciting luncheon club, meets monthly except December bringing wonderful entertainment with a catered meal. AARP/Templecare offers a local chapter meeting of AARP and TempleCare speakers bring lively lectures on our "temples," dealing with the physical, mental, and spiritual "Temple of the Holy Ghost."

Within the OASIS organization are several active working committees, among them the Repair and Travel. The Repair Committee is composed primarily of retired men of our church who go into homes of persons of low income to perform free home repairs. The Travel Committee plans several trips throughout the year ranging all the way from local day excursions such as the Kentucky State Fair to extended motorcoach or air tours. A meaningful activity of the Older Adults is "Holiday Cheer." Persons go to cetain hospital waiting rooms on Thanksgiving Day and on Christmas Day bearing packets stuffed with items such as crackers, gum, and candy to brighten the day for persons who have family or friends in the hospital. The Older Adult Ministry maintains a loan closet with durable medical equipment. Persons (of any age group) may check out this equipment for special medical needs. There is a printed piece called "Accents" which goes out to all older adults of the church. This paper contains articles of a general nature, promotional materials, and a listing of birthdays.

For more information about our Older Adult Ministry, email Vicki Daugherty or call (502) 589-5290.
